Hot Nerd Friday: Jenna Louise Coleman

I really can forgive the fact that this cutie wasn't a Whovian before she joined the cast of "Doctor Who" because she seems to get it. She seems to understand the style and speed of the show and I find her absolutely delightful. Like all Whovians, I was skeptical of the newest companion but the fact that her character is both intelligent and adorable helped her weasel her way into my heart.

Hot Nerd Friday: Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis is a babe. No one is going to argue this point. Totally hot babe. But she also seems really damn awesome! She smiles when people take her picture, she can cuss out the paparazzi in Russian, she chooses to accept odd-ball roles and she seems like the kind of girl who would be down for a session of Call of Duty. 

We all want Mila Kunis to be our hot best friend. :) 

Hot Nerd Friday: Mayim Bialik

Hey look! It's the only actually nerdy person on "The Big Bang Theory!" Mayim Bialik is known from her starring role on the early 90s hit, "Blossom," and her lively role as the eccentric, sexually frustrated scientist, Amy Farrah Fowler on the current hit show, "The Big Bang Theory," but she is so much more than a pretty face. This girl has brains! This lovely lady has a PhD in neuroscience from UCLA. I think it is so incredibly great that there are smart, beautiful professional women in the spotlight today for young girls to see and aspire to be like. What a great role model!

Hot Nerd Friday: Ira Glass

Some of you may know Ira Glass as the voice of "This American Life." The rest of you are probably asking yourself, who the hell is Ira Glass? If you fall into that second category, please do yourself a favor and go to the iTunes store and subscribe to the "This American Life" podcast right freaking now.

This man has a fantastic radio voice. He doesn't sound like he's over-selling anything, you can tell he cares about the things he's telling you and he always sounds genuinely interested in the subjects he's reporting on. I look forward to this podcast every week. I love feeling like I'm learning something as well as being entertained. I also appreciate that he's not one of those radio guys where you hear and think, "He sounds kind of cute," and then you do an image search and go, "Whoa! Nevermind!" and then you're whole listening experience is tainted... Am I the only person who does that? Hmmm....

Hot Nerd Friday: Neil deGrasse Tyson

Big brains are sexy. This is a fact. Therefore, this man is a sex god. He could do whatever he wanted, as long as he was talking to me about space while he did it. It is so hot to find a man who knows so much about the universe who is also approachable and willing to explain things to you if you don't understand. I really appreciate a man who is so excited about the things he is studying that there is no air of aloofness concerning his knowledge. No! He is smart and he wants you to be, too!

Thank you, Dr. Tyson. You sexy, sexy scientist you...

Hot Nerd Friday: Harrison Ford

Nerd girls, nerd gay men, you have to admit that one of your very first inappropriate nerd crushes was on one of this man's characters. I was an Indy girl first because there was a "No SciFi" rule in my house and also a "All of the Action Movies" rule. I didn't see Star Wars for the first time until I was fourteen or fifteen. But at a young age, I definitely found myself drawn to the intelligent, nerdy adventurous bad boy who was Doctor Jones. Yes, time for love Dr. Jones! This man is a cultural icon and we should all take a moment out of our day to bow down to him. Thank you, Mr. Ford. Without you, I'm sure they would have found someone far smarmier and far less charismatic to play our favorite space outlaw.

Now I have to take a moment and acknowledge the fact that when I looked Mr. Ford up on IMDB to see what he's working on now, the most recent entry reads "Indiana Jones 5." There isn't a whole lot of information about this yet. Only that both George Lucas and Harrison Ford are connected to this. I kind of feel like if this was really a project that Lucas Films was serious about, there would have been some sort of announcement during the Disney deal press conferences. I am skeptical, I am dubious. Please, please, please don't let the the secret at the end of the movie be aliens. Please let there be some sort of historically significant link instead.

Regardless of potential projects, Harrison Ford is a man I hope children look up to for decades to come and the first roguish man little nerdlets have a crush on. 

Hot Nerd Friday: Joss Whedon

 Joss Whedon is a sexy beast. Okay, maybe he is a little funny looking physically but have you SEEN his BRAIN? I mean, DUDE his brain is dead sexy. This man is brilliant, kind, compassionate, funny, has no qualms killing his characters and continues to write strong role models for little girls. That makes him sexy. I had the opportunity to meet him once and while I would have handled it differently now, I feel honored to have the opportunity to shake his hand and thank him for what he has done for the Sci-Fi community.

It brings me endless joy that a man who has, in the past, only enjoyed the praise of a cult following, to now enjoy huge commercial success. It is as if every nerd who has ever enjoyed anything Mr. Whedon created joined hands and yelled, "It is done!" and then forked over all of their moneys to make Whedon projects go.

 I am thankful every day that this man is in Hollywood making things and I hope he never stops.

(Next month is NaNoWriMo and hopefully I 'll be able to get myself back on schedule. I'm going to make it this year. I drunkenly signed a pact with a fellow writer. There's no backing out of those.)

Hot Nerd Friday: Rufus Wainwright

Okay, I realize that Mr. Wainwright is not my typical choice for Hot Nerd Friday. No, he doesn't do comic books, super hero movies or sing about "Star Wars," but this man is a music nerd. He has an impeccable sense of rhythm, he's a very talented song-writer and performer and he is WAY INTO what he does.

Okay, honestly the biggest reason why I picked him today is because I saw him in concert last night and he was a-mazing. It wasn't Rufus and a huge orchestra, back-up singers and him singing over a recording. It was just Rufus, a piano and a guitar (that he wasn't very good at tuning). If he messed something up, you heard it. Even with about 800 people in the audience, the show still felt intimate and personal. He has a good sense of humor an a wealth of talent. Gosh darn it, he's cute! And oh my goodness! The sparkly suit with the sequin scarf!

Hot Nerd Friday: Terrance Zdunich

I know some of you are going to want to yell things when I say this, but I just saw "Repo! The Genetic Opera" this week. It was my laundry day movie. If I can gather one thing from this movie is that I am in love with Terrance Zdunich's brain and his voice. He really pokes me in my creepy, gothy spot. Oh my goodness I love me some sexy, talented goth boys. And goth boys in suits? You could knock me over with a feather.

I have decided that this man needs to be in more things and singing. I adore his voice. Me = butter MELTING all over the place. He has come out with a new movie, "The Devil's Carnival." I don't think there has been a wide release but it has been shown in some late-night theaters to a lucky few.

Just say his name three or four times. Are you smiling? Yeeeeah, you totally are. Don't lie. He is the kind of British actor I adore. He's unconventionally handsome and has an AMAZING voice. He is an odd looking fellow and he doesn't look like the type who would be super fit but he is. He's also a fantastic actor. Of all the actors who have played Sherlock Holmes, he is my very favorite. I could listen to this man read a lasagna recipe all day long. Mmm... Benedict Cumberbatch.

Hot Nerd Friday: Arthur Darvill

 Okay, so Arthur Darvill isn't really a conventional hottie. He's kind of an Adrian Brody hottie. You know? You don't realize you're attracted to him until you've been staring at him for a couple seasons. I have only seen Arthur Darvill in "Doctor Who" though to be fair, he hasn't been in a whole lot else. I very much enjoy watching playing Rory A.K.A The Best Boyfriend Ever. I mean, Rory may have accidentally shot his wife because he was a robot but at least he waited around for 2000 years to protect her. Nice guy, right? Rory and Amy's love is beautiful. They need each other. Rory wouldn't even exist if it weren't for Amy.

Can you tell I'm really jonesing for new Doctor Who?

Hot Nerd Friday: Anne Hathaway

This probably goes without saying but I like a girl who realizes that her head is not just the thing she styles to make her look pretty. You know, a girl with like, brains and stuff. Like, you know? Sorry... 

What I like about Anne Hathaway is that she's a full package. She's beautiful, talented, smart and she takes some really fun and adventurous roles. She doesn't mind making herself look silly or unkept. But even when she's playing a frizzy haired personal assistant or a cowgirl with a gay husband, she has such poise and presence. She is a strong confident woman. 

The only thing that would make her sexier is if she quit smoking forever. She's far too beautiful and wonderful to have a nasty habit like that. Maybe she should pick up something better like kitten huffing or something.

We all know the reason nerds everywhere are drooling a lot extra for Miss Hathaway tonight is because she's Catwoman. In my opinion, she is one of the sexiest Cat ladies ever. I mean, godDAMN.

Hot Nerd Friday: Marian Call

Marian Call is smart, funny, nerdy, talented, pretty, sweet.... I could go on and on and on... She is fantastic and I appreciate her. She is at ComiCon right now, so if you are there, please go tell her she's wonderful.

I discovered her through a podcast about six months ago through a podcast and I am so hooked on her. She writes about a variety of things from her home in Alaska, Jane Austin, Firefly and just being a nerd in general. 

She is the type of nerd who I would like to see gain much much more success. If you ever have a chance to go see her live, do it! And then tell me about it.

Hot Nerd Friday: Amy Adams

Amy Adams is just about the cutest thing in the world. I mean, don't you just want to love and cuddle her and take her home and well... ahem... Nevermind. I love that even though she is a beautiful, fiery redhead, she chooses a lot of really quirky roles. (At least I hope she's choosing.) She is as cute as a button in "the Muppet Movie," very convincing and silly in "Enchanted," and fantastic in "Sunshine Cleaners."

I appreciate it a lot when it is apparent that actresses are getting work because they have real talent and not just a pretty face.

Hot Nerd Friday: Eliza Dushku

One of my best friends growing up was and potentially still is OBSESSED with this sexy woman. Who can blame her? She's basically Joss Whedon's right-hand girl, she was Faith on "Buffy," Echo in "Dollhouse," a sexy burglar in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," basically if a director needs a smoking hot badass bitch, they call Eliza. Hot, smart, cute, ass-kicking, hard working... God DAMN is this woman fine!

Cartoon character so count for this, okay? Happy Friday everyone! Sorry I've ben lax recently but it's been super busy at home. Today I would like to present to you Miss Harley Quinn, one of many very sexy Batman villains. I adore her for her craziness, her loyalty to The Joker and really, that costume makes for some amazing cos-play! Carey Mulligan is so damn cute!!! Oh geez, I have such a crush on her. I want to eat her dimples like candy. She has Nerd Cred from play Miss Sally Sparrow in the "Blink" episodes of Doctor Who and she was fantastic in "An Education." I love her to pieces!

Now, I have no idea if Christina Hendricks is a nerd herself. I have seen no proof in either direction. What I do know is that she has had a role in two of my very favorite things and I adore her deeply. I want one for Christmas. You know, in that red dress with the bow on the back that she wore to the Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Campbell Christmas party last year... The one that makes her look like a present...
