The Aquabats! Super Show!

I have been a fan of The Aquabats, the ska band, since I was in junior high. I have all of their albums and they have been in heavy rotation since I first was introduced to them by a friend. When The Commander created "Yo Gabba Gabba," I watched. Unfortunately, I didn't know anyone with really little kids at the time so I couldn't create little ska babies. I was incredibly thrilled to learn a month or so ago that there was going to be a new show on Saturday mornings featuring the whole band, I was thrilled! I am fortunate in that my honey is a ska fan as well so I was not the only one running around the house like a crazy person.

If you're looking for big budget, descent acting and high end special effects, go elsewhere. Your kind is not welcome here. If you have ever said the phrase, "H.R. Puffinstuff is fricken' rad!" then you will not be disappointed. This is a show that is literally on tv on Saturday morning and is in the 1970s Saturday morning programming style. The monsters are made out of household items and rubber masks, the goals of the adventures are set low (waffles!) and The Aquabats are left to do what they do best. Totally rock out, dude!

Check it out. I doubt this show has long for this world.

21 Jump Street

I didn't want to see this movie. I thought it looked dumb as hell. Color me surprised when Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie an 85%! With the recommendation of The Internets, my exhaustion from spending all of Saturday on my feet cooking St. Patrick's Day dinner and the fact that there really wasn't anything interesting out that weekend, I went to see this movie last Sunday.

That all being said, I really enjoyed this movie. It had good character development and was genuinely funny. Early in the film, the movie acknowledges that yes, there have been a lot of movies being made recently based off 80s culture, yes it is getting old and yes, it is because the people who are really in charge just aren't very creative. By recognizing that what they're doing is feeding into the beating of the dead horse that is the 1980s, it allows the audience to move past this idea and just enjoy the movie for the odd buddy comedy it is.

This is a super fun movie but it is not one that absolutely needs to be seen in theaters. This could very well be a good movie to turn into a drinking game at home on a Friday night. Highly enjoyable. I absolutely recommend.

Young Nerdlings of the world, rejoice!

Lauren Faust, the wonderful animation genius we have to thank for "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" and "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic," is at it again! There is a new show that unfortunately, has not been signed yet called "Super Best Friends Forever!" It is a cartoon featuring teen Wonder Girl, Batgirl and Super Girl as, as you can imagine Besties!!!!

I welcome this show with open arms and will buy it on dvd for any daughters I may ever bear. Judge for yourself.

New companion announced!!!!

This morning the BBC announced the actress who is destined to become The Doctor's next companion. Of course, I'm skeptical. She looks YOUNG. In reality, she's 25 but that doesn't mean that's how old her character will be. Luckily, we will get five more episodes of Amy and Rory but I don't want to let them go!!

Hot Nerd Friday: Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan is so damn cute!!! Oh geez, I have such a crush on her. I want to eat her dimples like candy. She has Nerd Cred from play Miss Sally Sparrow in the "Blink" episodes of Doctor Who and she was fantastic in "An Education." I love her to pieces!
